How do you get where you want to go?

DISCLAIMER: THIS GUIDE IS EXTREMELY THOROUGH AND WILL BRING UP FEELINGS, EMOTIONS, AND EVEN PHYSICAL SENSATIONS. TAKE TIME TO COMPLETE IT AND SEEK A THERAPIST IF YOU CONSIDER IT NECESSARY. MAKE A SPACE TO MEDITATE YOUR ANSWERS AND A SPACE TO REST AFTER.

Self-awareness in this day and age is vital. It is the essence of your individuality. It is what makes you competitive in work or school, it's what makes you who you are. Adolescence is an important stage because it's when kids start to question their parents, their ways of thinking and start forming their own selves. However, some people never find themselves or lose themselves seeking external validation, social approval or because of other triggers like fear or guilt.

This is the fourth part of the self-awareness questionnaires, to review the previous ones click on 1, 2, 3.
These questionnaires are designed to help you increase your self-awareness and your quality of life. We have defined who you are and where you want to go, but how do we land those abstract concepts into your new reality and your new self? How do I get there?

First of all, the past questionnaires were intense! Congratulations! You've done way more introspection than the average human.
So, if you've gotten this far, you are more than halfway there. By now, you should have a clear and specific idea of where you come from, who you are and where you are going.

Let's take some of the information from your questionnaires and do the diligence it needs before starting our way. Your past has had fun and struggles that should empower you to move forward, you have survived life up to this point against all the odds, so you have within you the complete power to achieve your goals. With that information, build your personal brand that will guide you in desition-making and marketing yourself for any position or activity.

Now, ask yourself:

  •      What factors do I have to consider (economically, timing, geeography, family, etc.)
  •      What erroneous assumptions am I making that are keeping me from moving forward? We are usually our own limitations, and we buy these ideas that "if I were younger/older/bigger/smaller" and we prevent ourselves from trying new things.
  •       What do I need to get started on this change TODAY? This question usually goes to dreamland and ends in procastination. Work with what you have now.
  •       Who can help me take this step? Build a network of people who love and support you. And be brave in leaving the relationships that go against you or that pull you down.
After this, take baby steps. Change is stressful and our brains don't like it. You must be constant and patient.  Don't waste time comparing yourself to others and thinking about what you don't have and what you're lacking, focus on your goal and your dream, focus on the everyday work. Use your network to help you bounce up when faith is running low.
If everything fails, after the emotional breakdown, analyze what went wrong and what you could've done better, and try again. Maybe it didn't fail, but you just need to change something. Keep an open mind for answers. And good luck!
